Becky Hammon Named NBA’s First Female Coach

After 16 seasons as a star of the WNBA, Becky Hammon is tackling a new challenge as Assistant Coach with the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs.

It has been announced that Hammon, who retired from the WNBA at the end of the 2014 season, will be the first female coach in any of the four major sporting leagues as she takes to the bench with the San Antonio Spurs this season.

Spurs Head Coach Gregg Popovich told, “I very much look forward to the addition of Becky Hammon to our staff. Having observed her working with our team this past season, I’m confident her basketball IQ, work ethic and interpersonal skills will be a great benefit to the Spurs.”
