Cup Check! April 27, 2015

Welcome to The Other Half’s crowdsourced playoff-recap for April 27th, 2015. #TME is busy doing mom things, so Eliza is bringing you today’s Cup Check! Our watchers for the two games last night were Beth Boyle Machlan, Sheila Lane, and Amber French, and though they only had two games to watch, those two games sure packed in a ton of action.

At the end of the night the basics looked like this:

The Washington Capitals finally took a Game 7, beating the New York Islanders to win their series and move on to Round 2. The Tampa Bay Lightning staved off elimination with a win over the Detroit Red Wings, pushing them to a Game 7, which will take place tomorrow night.

How about them details:

Detroit Red Wings vs Tampa Bay Lightning

Goals:
– TBL Tyler Johnson at 3:47 in 1st.
– TBL Jason Garrison’s beard at 11:10 in 1st.
– TBL Tyler Johnson at 9:09 in 2nd.

– DET PPG Tomas Tatar at 12:26 in 2nd.
– DET Tomas Tatar at 1:39 in 3rd.
– TBL Alex Killorn at 14:51 in 3rd.
– TBL ENG Cedric Paquette at 19:03 in 3rd.

Goalies: Mrazek stopped 23 of 27, and Bishop stopped 22 of 24.

Notables:
I agree, this is a nice playoff beard. Thanks for your contribution, Jason Garrison.

Best:
THOSE MRAZEK SAVES WOW OH MY SO GREAT WOW

Tyler Johnson is doing all the work and that is working out nicely for the Bolts so far.

Worst:
Goalie makes a save, everyone starts punching. Seriously, calm down.

This Kronwall hit on Kucherov. What were you thinking, Kronwall? Were you thinking? No, I didn’t think so. You’re suspended for game 7 for it, so I hope you think about how stupid this was while you’re in the press box.

Tampa 5 – Detroit 2. The series is tied 3-3, and Game 7 will be on Wednesday.

New York Islanders vs Washington Capitals

Goals:
-(WSH) Joel Ward at 18:35 in the 2nd period
-(NYI) Frans Neilsen at 3:35 in the 3rd
-(WSH) Evgeny Kuznetsov at 12:42 in the 3rd

Goalies: Holtby stopped stopped 10 of 11 (ELEVEN! ONLY ELEVEN!); Halak stopped 24 of 26.

Notables:
Tom Wilson misses check; smooshes Brook Laich. Started slow but then Caps woke up and took over. Holtby barely appeared onscreen, other than to let the Isles’ one goal dribble through. Thanks for stopping by, Holtby.

Best:
Halak groin save after crazy bounce. Looked like he left the net to run some errands, maybe do a bit of gardening out back, but then ZIIIIIIIPPPPPPP.

Worst:
Bad hit by Ovi on Hickey, not called. Nobody’s calling anything. Mike Milbury threw a book.

REFS CALLED THE FIRST PENALTY WITH 2:54 LEFT IN THE GAME, BECAUSE REFS.

So, the Caps won. There was kissing. As a Rangers fan, and thus witness to many #kissesforCam #KreiderKisses, I’m unimpressed, but they seem happy.

WSH 2, NYI 1. WSH advances to play the NYR in Round 2.
