Cup Check! May 13, 2015

Welcome to Cup Check! for May 13 2015. Thanks to Eliza Eaton-Stern, Amber French, and the NY Rangers own Beth Machlan, whom we are happy to say survived the series with her heart intact (if with slightly elevated blood pressure). It’s somewhat fitting that this series was decided in OT, as that’s where they broke the heart of another editor here at TOH, in the last round.

That’s enough preamble, onto the game.

Washington Capitals vs New York Rangers – Round 2,Game 7

-(WSH) Alex Ovechkin at 12:50 in the 1st period
-(NYR) PPG –Kevin Hayes at 6:22 in the 2nd
-(NYR) Derek Stepan at 11:24 in 1st OT

Goalies: Braden Holtby stopped 37 of 39 Henrik Lundqvist stopped 35 of 36.

Holtby likes Quiet Riot.

With the goalies playing their faces off, we kinda figured the first goal might be a stinker.

But… it wasn’t. It was all Ovi. And wow was he excited to put the biscuit in the basket:

…sorry, wrong tweet.

Holby denies Nash, who nearly put it through the 5-hole:

In the 2nd period, Kevin Hayes ties it up for the Rangers:

It didn’t seem to bother Ovi too much:

Still tied with 1:30 left to play, and things are intense:

Hank being Hank.

Rangers now 10-0 in elimination games on home ice.

Why are you allowing this in OT, Rangers???

Orpik hit on Dan Boyle may lead to a conversation with Toronto.

“All series, baby. All series.” They were both amazing.

Rangers 2, Capitals 1, giving the Rangers the series win.

The Eastern Conference Finals begin on Saturday, May 16 at 7:30 in New York.
