Cup Check! May 19, 2015

Welcome to The Other Half’s crowdsourced playoff-recap for May 19, 2015 – or if you were in certain time zones, May 19 AND 20. But we’ll get to that. Eliza Eaton-Stern, Sheila Lane, Hannah Bevis, and Allyson Z. contributed thoughts, tweets, and incoherent screams over the course of the evening.

At the end of the night/the dawn of the next day, the Chicago Blackhawks won the second game of the Western Conference Final, tying the Anaheim Ducks 1-1 in the series. The 3OT game lasted 1:56:12, the longest game in Hawks history and the second longest for the Ducks (who have a FIVE OT record from 2003).

How about them details:

Goals:

– (CHI) PPG (deflected) Andrew Shaw at 2:14 in the 1st
– (CHI) PPG Marian Hossa at 6:19 in the 1st
– (ANA) Andrew Cogliano (deflected) 9:14 in the 1st

– (ANA) Corey Perry (tip in) at 17:30 in the 2nd
– (CHI) SWEDISH KING MARCUS KRUGER (16:12 of THIRD OT)

Goalies: Crawford (CHI)stopped 58 of 60, Anderson (ANA) stopped 50 of 53. (#superstars)

Notables:

Aha, but the Hawks have been playing with just five defensemen basically the whole playoffs. *cries*

Don’t. Touch. Marian. Hossa.

Goalie hit break!

Goal against! Penalty! HOLP.

The Ducks’ 4th line, made up entirely of 22 year olds, showed why they’re playing:

Penalty! Too many buns on the ice.

too many buns

…what pic did you THINK we would use for that? You should be ashamed. And/or send us the pic you thought we were gonna use.

Overtime!

…Second overtime!

Andrew Shaw soccer goal break:

(DEAR BBC THE UK HAS HOCKEY CHECK IT OUUUUUT)

So, you know, third overtime.

A reminder, just in case you were having some overtime-related existential despair:

In conclusion:

Best:

Worst: Goalie chants continue to be terrible- thanks, Ducks fans.

Chicago 3, Anaheim 2, tying the series 1-1 and guaranteeing us Game 5

This series continues Thursday, May 21 at 8:00 Eastern in Chicago

Once the points were tallied and the soundbytes given The Other Half took a vote and we agree:

What impressed us: The TOI for the defensemen. Like, GUYS. WHOA. Hope you’re all NAPPING today.
What distressed us: They literally played two full games of hockey (less approximately four minutes). GUYS. WHOA. WE NEED SLEEP.

Puck drops tonight at 8:00 PM ET in Tampa Bay. Don’t worry, we’ll have oxygen on hand for Rangers Beth. We’ll be back here tomorrow for our newest installment of “Can Beth write and flail hysterically at the same time.”
