Cup Check! May 20, 2015

Welcome to The Other Half’s crowdsourced playoff-recap for May 20, 2015. This recap is brought to you by Shameless Rangers Homer Beth Boyle Machlan, and Attempted Queen of Neutrality Sheila Lane. As of Game 3, the Bolts have decided that they like a) scoring six goals and b) winning. The Rangers have decided to let Tampa Bay come right down the middle on every zone entry, which probably has something to do with the six goals. At the end of the night, Rangers “fans” had tarred and feathered Martin St. Louis, were carrying Rick Nash’s head through Bryant Park on a pike, and had traded Henrik Lundqvist to the Maple Leafs for a handful of magic beans.

How about them details:

-(NYR) PPG – Derick Brassard at 1:02 in the 1st period

-(NYR) Jesper Fast at 9:55 in the 1st period
-(TBL) Steven Stamkos at 11:07 in the 1st period
-(TBL) PPG – Ondrej Palat 10:32 in the 2nd period
-(TBL) Tyler Johnson at 13:17 in the 2nd period
-(TBL) Alex Killorn at 17:18 in the 2nd period
-(NYR) Jesper Fast at 17:47 in the 2nd period
-(NYR) PPG – Ryan McDonagh at 2:28 in the 3rd period
-(TBL) Ondrej Palat at 14:05 in the 3rd period
-(NYR) Dan Boyle at 18:04 in the 3rd period
-(TBL) Nikita Kucherov at 3:33 in 1OT

Goalies: Lundqvist (NYR) stopped 34 of 40, Bishop (TBL) stopped 23 of 28.

The Top Ten reasons Lundqvist is the most handsome man of all time?

But he can see a Bolts victory! From! Spaaaace!

Jesper Fast. The puck is a ball and he is a blue-eyed Swedish retriever, except instead of retrieving the puck he takes it and throws it past Ben Bishop. TWICE! He carried the Rangers on his poor fluffy puppy back, basically. (Wait, is this “best” or “worst?”)

And then there’s the triplets: Ondrej Palat, Nikita (See the comic??? Get it now???) Kucherov, and Tyler Johnson (who makes up for his boring name with goals, hat tricks, etc.).

Dan Boyle perfected his celly at a Whitesnake concert in 1987.

Lightning 6, Rangers 5, giving the Bolts a 2-1 series lead

This series continues Friday, May 22 at 8:00 Eastern in Tampa Bay.

Once the points were tallied and the soundbytes given The Other Half took a vote and we agree:

What impressed us: We like to see goals scored. We saw a lot of them tonight.

What distressed us: THIS:

Dear God.

Coming up tomorrow – will fatigue begin to show after the Western Conference’s marathon Game 2? Will Mike Milbury find a way to follow through on his threats to Corey Perry? Will we see another 3 OT game that drives our recappers over the edge? Stay tuned, friends.
