Cup Check! May 7, 2015

Welcome to The Other Half’s crowdsourced playoff-recap for May 7th, 2015. Beth Boyle Machlan and Sheila Lane did all the work on this one, because they are incomparable.

At the end of the night the basics looked like this:

Tampa Bay must have had a team hangover or something because Montreal stomped ALL over them, and Minnesota wouldn’t be blamed if they wished PKane had stayed broken juuuuust a little bit longer, their run at the Cup ended Thursday night.

How about them details:

Montreal Canadiens vs Tampa Bay Lightning – Round 2, Game 4

Goals:

-(MTL) Andrei Markov 2:44 in the 1st
-(MTL) SHG Max Pacioretty 8:43 in the 1st
-(MTL) David Desharnais 5:08 in the 2nd
-(MTL) PPG Jeff Petry 9:39 in the 2nd
-(MTL) Brendan Gallagher 9:54 in the 2nd
-(TBL) PPG Nikita Kucherov 12:26 in the 2nd
-(TBL) PPG Ondrej Palat 0:17 in the 3rd
-(MTL) Brandon Prust 4:52 in the 3rd

Goalies: Carey Price (MTL) stopped 22 of 24, Bishop (TBL) stopped 11 of 14, Vasilevskiy (TBL) stopped 23 of 26.

Notables:

So a Norris finalist and a Vezina finalist walk into a bar…this was the game where Carey Price had it going on (boom chicka), the bounces were against Ben Bishop, and the Habs recovered their momentum (after being 1.1 seconds from OT in Game 3) to take Game 4 decisively.

So this …

Led to this …

Best: Montreal, which was 0-5 against Tampa Bay in the regular season, avoids both a playoff and a season sweep!

Worst: Bounces. Whaddya gonna do, Bishop.

Canadiens 6, Lightning 2, giving the Bolts a 3-1 series lead

This series continues Saturday, May 9 at 7:00 Eastern in Montreal.

Chicago Blackhawks vs Minnesota Wild – Round 2, Game 4

Goals:

-(CHI) Brent Seabrook – 10:23 in the 1st
-(CHI) PPG – Andrew Shaw – 03:28 in the 2nd
-(MIN) Erik Haula – 06:42 in the 2nd
-(CHI) Patrick Kane – 13:20 in the 3rd
-(CHI) SHG – Marian Hossa – 16:53 in the 3rd
-(MIN) PPG – Jason Pominville – 17:42 in the 3rd
-(MIN) Nino Niederreiter – 18:33 in the 3rd

Goalies: Crawford stopped 34 of 37, Dubnyk stopped 21 of 24.

Notables:

The Wild were (quite reasonably) desperate to get this home win, and a couple of surprising (to Crawford, at least) goals in the very end of the third almost made it possible. Fans who had started sneaking out to get to the parking lot faster rushed back to their seats, and remained there to cheer the Wild after the loss.

Deflected off his what?

“It does mean a lot, the amount of character that he has, the amount of pressure that’s on him whether he plays good or, some people think not so good, I think we always know he’s the same guy in there working as hard as ever.” Jonathan Toews on Corey Crawford

friends forever

Best:
These sweep tweets:

Worst:
After Rozsival’s injury:

That’s just vile.

Blackhawks 4, Wild 3, giving the Hawks the series 4-0.

This series don’t gotta continue. Zed’s dead, baby.

Once the points were tallied and the soundbytes given The Other Half took a vote and we agree:

What impressed us: The backup Bolts goalie – let in two of the first three shots but then settled down and turned in a credible performance
What distressed us: Rozie who will have/has had surgery and is done for the season
