Cup Check! Stanley Cup Final Game 2, June 6, 2015

Welcome to The Other Half’s Stanley Cup Final recap for Game Two – June 6th, 2015. Janice Rochford was holding down the fort for the first half of the game with me tonight (Ed. Note: HI GUYS. I’VE MISSED YOU.) After that it’s all TME and TME’s twitter feed, so you can just blame me for the groan-worthy humor.

The night started off with a little bit of history-making for anyone like TME who misread the clock and tuned in early for hockey…and instead were just in time to watch American Pharoah and his Mexico-born rider win the Triple Crown for the first time in 37 years, while Secretariat’s owner looked on. Look, I really could not care much less about horse racing, but that was pretty amazing to watch. What a gorgeous athlete. (The horse, of course, who did all the work.)

At the end of the night, I may have to accept I’m not gonna be able to live-watch another game this series, because true to form, I watch, Hawks lose. And while our Hawks-hating and Bolts-loving staff here at TOH are probably cool with that, the Editor-in-Chief and I are not. Sorry guys.

Chicago Blackhawks at Tampa Bay Lightning – Game 2, FINAL ROUND

Goals:
– TBL Paquette at 12:56 in the 1st
– CHI Shaw at 3:05 in the 2nd
– CHI Teravainen (PPG) at 5:20 in the 2nd
– TBL Kucherov at 6:52 in the 2nd
– TBL Johnson at 13:58 in the 2nd
– CHI Seabrook at 3:38 in the 3rd
– TBL Garrison (PPG & GWG) at 8:49 in the 3rd

Goalies: Crawford stopped 20 of 24; Bishop stopped 21 of 24, then Vasilevskiy stopped 5 of 5 .

Notables:

Everybody got busy with it right out of the gate (ha) and the goalies went right to work:

That was close, Corey, you’re lucky that one went CLANG.

Bishop denied Saad in a very pretty way:

Captain Morgan (TME’s fav mixer) has NAILED it with this goosebump-inducing ad:

(So long as you aren’t one of those people who know the origins of O Captain!)

Our illustrious announcers were totally on their game tonight.

This gives Janice a designgasm:

Shaw’s goal from above:

It’s #TeuvoTime

And Kucherov with the barest touch on a pass (shot?) from Garrison:

Same, Laz, SAME.

At least Desjardin is eating well.

This is just generally funny:

You would think since I’m watching the game I would have noticed this. But I have children, who I am trying to get finish their dinner. So. Thank god for Stephanie.

UGH. WHY ARE THE STANLEY CUP COMMERCIALS ALWAYS TEARJERKERS!?

Not game related, but appropo:

Then we’re back for the third and…

BUT THEN!

MOVING ON.

SHARPY. NO.

Playoffs Esoteric Stats are THE BEST.

Wait, what?

U OK, BEN?

Guess so.

AND THEN:

THANKS, SHARPY.

BUT THEN! This game is just nuts, yo.

And then twitter exploded in conversation about how Vasilevskiy was in for like two minutes and might get to log this game as a win, because he became goalie of record. I do not even.

BEN. REALLY. R U OK?

Well. I guess he’d know…

Look, there’s a LOT of really terrible bathroom-related jokes on twitter right now that I am NOT subjecting you to. YOU’RE WELCOME.

Snort.

Same.

Ooooh, our fav gif maker, Stephanie has some good info here:

Of course there’s also this,

And this,

Also, it’s now 30 seconds out and Hawks are gonna lose, guys. Because I decided to watch the whole game and this has become a THING and I may have to take one for the team and not turn on a game again.

UGH. Being a superstitious hockey fan is the WORST.

Oh, buddy. You are a BABY. And this STRESS. WOW.

Oh. Nevermind.

Yes.

Also yes.

Dude.

LOL

I’m not sure my blood pressure can take it, but I agree anyway.

Heh.

U OK, KANER?

And I think we (Hawks fans) can all agree on this one too,

Heh. You say this like you’re surprised. Hee.

In the post-game:

Best:

Twitter, you find the BEST THINGS.

Worst:

AS WELL YOU SHOULD, SNOT.

Blackhawks 3, Lightning 4, the final round is tied and we’re headed to Chicago.

This series continues Monday, June 8th at 8:00 PM.

Once the points were tallied and the soundbytes given The Other Half took a vote and we agree some how I wound up the only one in the office so I get to pick:

What impressed us: Bishop. All joking aside, it’s obvious something was wrong and he tried to get back on the ice anyway. And while I vehemently oppose the “hockey-tough” rhetoric, I respect a guy who tries to do his job. I sincerely hope he hasn’t injured himself in the process.

What distressed us: The goalie interference/no goalie interference next-year-it-will-be-no-goal nonsense that happened to both teams. That crap doesn’t make for fun hockey, guys.

I’m working on a site (and personal) update for everyone as we get further into our fourth month of sports reporting. It’s been kind of nuts behind the scene, and pretty great on the face of things and as the hockey season winds down for the NHL we’re ramping up some great content for you, and I can’t wait to share.

For now, we’ve got at least three more games to come and it looks to be a BLAST.

See you Tuesday!
